Habitat for Humanity-Spokane is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Since 1987, Habitat-Spokane has built 190 homes, providing affordable homeownership as an option for very low income families. Habitat homes are built simply and affordably through partnership with community volunteers and donations. All costs to build the homes are transferred to the family. Community support keeps building expenses low, thus reducing the cost to the family.
Since 1951, the Union Gospel Mission has been meeting the physical needs of people in crisis. Food, shelter and clothing, however, are just the beginning. The earnestly desired end for our clients is a transformed heart through Jesus Christ — a realization that they are loved by God and significant as His children. Such change flows out to every aspect of their lives: physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual. We seek to address each of these areas and, in turn, our ministries have evolved and grown over the years to include learning centers and businesses, where education and job training can take place.
